Сергей ДЬЯЧКОВ  Frankly

The song compilation of the once widely known emigrant (he left in 1987) composer Sergey Djachkov, performed by the group Flowers and Blue Bird should, according to the seeming intent of the publishers, arouse a pleasant nostalgia.
The cover shows an awfully familiar old photograph. Struggling to remember where you've seen it before (a very clever design trick- while you're thinking, you might as well listen to the album), it hits you- that's the piece taken from the 1972 Flowers, with that same song, "we don't look at girls anymore." (By the way, Djachkov got on there by accident- he wasn't a member of the group, even though he recorded some keyboard bits with them). Anyway, "Frankly" is, frankly, the only hit song on the disk. Everything else is professional, melodious, lyrical and bright- but so hopelessly old fashioned that not even the current retro trend will be able to save it from the vaults. The disk is unfortunately fated for commercial failure, but remains valuable as an historical document for its reflection of the age.
