Great phsychodelic experience (GPE) tends to make good people tedious, at the same time their philosophy becomes rather one-sided and their music usually begins to sound really cool. In all senses of the word. 'Splean' band in their new album named 'Altavista' is sharing their GPE with their audience. They have a lot to share. Teens spirit of 'Orbit', the greatest hit from their previous album, has changed to alcoholic and nicotine wisdom of 'Drinking and Smoking'; hypnotic 'Maria and Juana' has turned without noticeable changes to 'Motorcycle chain'; finally, optimistic color of the pomegranate seeds has changed in 'Altavista' to impassive brown shade.

'Splean' is sure that this release differs greatly from all their previous works, as they were told by Boris Grebenshikov - Russian guru. One should believe him, he knows everything. Still all tracks sound like 'Maria and Juana' from 'Pomegranate' and the most well-known song of 'Altavista' - 'Milk and Honey' - is made in unmistakable 'Splean' manner of their early works. This song was written about a year ago, and it should have become a part of 'Pomegranate album'. Good for 'Splean' it has not: in 'Altavista' it plays the role of 'Orbit', becoming the greatest hit of the album. Well, 'Splean' fans do not care what to consume: bubble gum, milk or honey.

And, really, 'Altavista' is a story about everything one can consume: from peyote to spirits, from porter to gasoline, from honey to Internet information. By the way, AltaVista searching engine, according to 'Splean', has nothing to do with this release. I wouldn't say that. In 'Splean' version of AltaVista one can find a lot. King Crimson, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, late Boris Grebenshikov and some vague Yanka's intonations - the percentage of alcohol in this long drink is so high that it is definitely prohibited to anyone who is under 21. All the others will get absolutely buzzed, realizing that the hang-over is going to be horrible.
